I need help quick! Programming new dish remote?

I busted my dish remote, but luckily I have another one that I picked up at a garage sale. The extra remote is newer than the dish I'm using and I'm not sure if that'll be a problem. How do I get the new remote to work?

    maybe the manual should help what kind of cable company do you have?

    there should have been a chip on the old remote that says tv 1 or tv2 on it switch that to the new remote and follow the steps in your book if you dont have a book call customer service they will be able to help you they did me
