I keep getting a low virtual memory message but I have 24 GB's of free space?

This message keeps appearing although I have plenty of free space on my hard drive. What gives? How do I fix this? Please don't tell me to free up space by deleting files because I just said I have enough space. If you tell me this I'm going to scream.

Update:

Thanks John and Caffiend

Harddrive space has nothing to do with Memory.

Changing your Swapfile or Virtual Memory size

    Right Click on MY COMPUTER

    Choose Properties

    Choose the ADVANCED tab

Choose the SETTINGS button under the Performance section

    Choose the ADVANCED tab

Under Virtual memory choose the CHANGE button

Make sure it’s set to System managed size. OR change it to a larger size

    Click APPLY

Virtual memory and free space are two different things. What you need to do is either follow Johns advice or if you have a another drive try putting your paging file on a drive that you use the least. To move the pagefile go to the C drive, go to folder options, uncheck hide hidden files and uncheck hide system files. Look for a file called pagefile.sys and move it to the drive that you use the least. Otherwise you can get better RAM.

Virtual Memory doesn't use all of the remaining hard drive. It has an allocated space which it is allowed to use.

Search around: increase virtual memory windows

If you're running on VM though, you're seriously not doing your HDD any good. Consider buying some more RAM.

Virtual memory isnt free space dude, its RAM (Random Access Memory), u dont know computer that well huh? The solution is just upgrade your RAM, thats the only thing, or try to close some big RAM taking programs

Right click on my computer and go to properties.

Click on the advanced tab. Then click the settings button under performance.

Click the advanced tab. Where it says virtual memory change that to a higher number and see how that works for you.

You may also want to run CCleaner and see what things are starting up when you boot your PC that don't need to be running.

you do not state what working equipment you're utilising, yet as an occasion, you are able to in win98 click on MY workstation, and the final tab decrease than homes is overall performance, the place you are able to look at your digital memory ( your harddisk is used as short-term memory ), and choose yet another tension, or how lots harddisk area you pick residing house windows to apply as digital area. And the respond above states, you're filling up your harddisk and there is no extra area for short-term storage... the two replace the digital tension settings to a distinctive empty tension, or burn your archives, and sparkling up area.

virtual memory is a portion of your hard drive dedicated to act as RAM in the event that your actual RAM gets all used up .. you need to up the amount of virtual memory and get more RAM .. anywho .. however much RAM you have .. set your virtual memory to 2 1/2 times the amount of RAM you have .. so if you have 1GB of RAM, then set your virtual memory to 2.5GB .. if you have 512MB of RAM, then set your virtual memory to about 1.5GB .. below are links to "how tos" for setting up your virtual memory

it isnt talking about your hard drive space. it has to do with your ram. you dont have enough to do everything you are doing. try closing out of programs you arent using.

you've got too many applications running at once. it's your 'ram' it's talking about. just give your computer a little less to handle :)

you should probably delete some files....

but memory refers to ram, not hd space.

    you got some problems...

do you have a anti virus program...if not, buy one and use it.
