My neighbors dog doesn't look like its getting enough of food?
Hey, i've started to notice that my neighbors dog isn't being fed properly. I don't know exactly what type of dog it is, but I know that her ribs, and hips aren't suppose to be showing like they are. I've brought it to my parents attention about what is going on, and they said that the neighbors said they "can't afford" the proper dog food that the previous owner fed the dog when it looked healthy. It really ticks me off when people take on these pets knowing they don't have the finances to match.
So, my question is what should I do, I don't want the dog taken away from them, their kids really like the dog, but I don't want to see the dog die from preventable causes either. So if you were in this situation what would you do?
To be honest I think it's a rottweirler...mixed with a little something else...but I know that the type of dog that it is, the ribs and hips are not suppose to be showing...
Thanks, but even if it is not a food related issue, if the dog IS sick they still aren't giving it the proper care it should be receiving...

I would call animal control if speaking with the neighbors didn't help. Animal Control will talk to the neighbors, and if they don't correct the issue or the dogs are in really bad shape, will seize them. There are plenty of cheap dog foods that would keep the dog a proper weight. That dog could be starved, sick, or both.
And I don't agree with the other poster who said in some breeds you should be able to see the ribs and pelvic bones. That's not right. You might see the last rib or two in some breeds, but the pelvic bones? I don't think so!

Talk to the neighbors and find out what is going on.The dog may actually be ill.If not ,maybe help out with the food issue.I agree that no animal should be taken on as a responsibility if you can't afford proper care. Now it's a situation of if what the neighbors answer is,whether you wish/can help,or surrendering the poor dog to the authorities to find a better home.Makes it hard on everyone, but you shouldn't let this continue.Good luck, and thanks for caring.

I don't understand how you know her ribs and hips aren't supposed to show if you don't even know what breed she is. For a lot of breeds, that's the way they're supposed to look.
But if she really isn't getting enough food, who cares that the kids really like the dog? Would you allow the dog to slowly starve to death because someone supposedly "likes" her? Call animal control and have her checked out.

Same thing with people that lived in my neighborhood, I felt awful as well they had 3 younger kids but the dog was in such bad shape. I called the animal humian society and they gave me a number to a investigator and i just report it to him. They came and took the dog and spayed her and im sure she is a living a beter life. Its hard but you need to think about the dog, its body is eatin her from the inside. people should get a dog if they cant feed them and by keep her there its not doing her anygood. Maybe when they are ready finacialy they can talk about getting another pet maybe something smaller. But yes please call! I did

you should consult your neighbor and if he dosent have an explanation you should try calling animal control because your neighbor might be treating tho dog wrong and he or she dosent know it so hope this helps and if its bones show that means its probably being abused and also since you said you dont want to take the pet away from the owner try feeding the dog

Buy food for the dog and feed it when it's out in the yard or if your neighbors are cool, just give them the bag and say, "my dog enjoys this food, maybe yours will too." It's like buying the neighbor kids treats.

i would call animal control....... Even if the kids like the dog, the dog would be better off at an animal shelter giving the dog proper care

It depends what dog it is, we have a Yorkshire Terrier and some days we feed him but he doesn't want too eat so he just goes thin and soon he will start too eat again :)
Try giving him food when the owners aren't looking
Hope this helps :)

I would make an anonymous call to the ASPCA and let them handle the situation. While you'd hate to see the dog taken away b/c they aren't feeding it but wouldn't it be worse to see the dog starve to death?

just call your local pound i know this sounds bad but if you tell them they can get a search warrant and look at the house themselves and if its bad they will remove the dog or give them a warning to get the dog in better care they wont tell ur neighbor who called them but if it is as bad as you say the pound will probably take him because huskys need room to run need to be outside so like i said give them a call believe it or not the pound takes good care of their pets and maybe later he will be up for adoption for you lol
