try buying him some flash cards, and go over them everyday.

How about buying some flash cards and playing a fun game with them? Maybe that would make him learn. My teacher told us that if you don't seem to remember a multiplication table then you should write it down for example 6 X 6 = 36 on paper and tape it to his wall and when he goes by.. he should look at it often and he'll remember what he saw..therefore he will remember it.

oh gosh. I hated them. I was not good at them at all, and no matter what teachers did I could not memorize them. The only ones I know without thinking are 1,2,3,5,7,9,10. Other then that i'm kinda hopeless. When I actually had to learn them I could only do 1,2,5,10.
you can't really force him into memorizing them, just try and help him with it. Some kids are good at memorizing the table and others aren't

Let his math teacher take care of his math education, it's okay that he's not perfect, really. Pressuring him or getting frustrated at him will only make it harder for him to learn. Direct him to the site, www.mathisfun.com, kids love it and it has so many games and different study tools for them. The kids in the afterschool program I work for actually beg to go on the site and do math!

Mathematicians are in demand. Encourage him to love it. Make it fun.
Make your own game, but keep it light and keep him interested.
12 huh? What reward have you thought of? Bribery works on a 12 year old.

my girlie learned so much from the learning placemats. She would sit at the table for at least 30min before each meal reviewing them. flash cards work well too.

Try to find a multiplication chart and let him use that. Soon enough, he will have more memorized.
