not a big Obama fan but I like this idea?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/abkmhxiginmm

I am a moderate republican and 100% oppose the public health care plans being floated now, but what about that one? It actually sounds like a good idea. My current insurer BCBS is a not for profit organization and they do a decent job. What would be wrong with this idea?

I don't want government running my health care. I do want more affordable coverage. I do want controlled costs. What do others think of this idea?

Update:

zolF. Not for profit organizations are heavily regulated. No big bad corporate hand raking in all the cash. Do you think people should work for free?

Update 2:

Jake, Not saying you should have to pay for it out of your pocket, but to help control costs shouldn't it be considered. It would make health care more affordable for you and everyone else. No government hand (or the corruption that goes with that) running it.

The problem is it all adds government debt, which means it adds debt to the people. The government takes and spends enough of the people's money. No more. There are plenty of charities that help people when they can't pay for health care. The government doesn't need to take even more of our money to do so, especially when 1/3 of Americans are overweight. Why should my hard earned money go to people who can't take care of themselves financially or their own health? That doesn't make me mean or evil, it makes me responsible.

It will be just like other huge non profits. The board will still be raking in tens millions, and coverage will still be denied to people. Nothing will change besides instead of money going to the investors, it will be going to the board.
