How are women and minorities discriminated in today's society?

well, legally there shouldn't be any. but lets face it, women get paid less than men do for the same jobs. no low jobs, but higher end. i personally think that we have crossed many barriers. i also see many unemployed blacks and i think that many employers still have beliefs blacks can't do the job as well, or the will steal from you, etc. same thing applies to those that dress gangster, or have tattoos, etc. i'm 49 and this is just what i see. doesn't make it a fact

I'm asian and when I was a child it was difficult for me to go anywhere without having stereotypes of asian males thrust upon me. I had not even said a word and people were already deciding so many things about me based on my appearance.

On top of this the stereotypes of asian males and females are not always positive. It is good that we are portrayed as hard working and smart but nobody wants to be assumed to be a geek before they have even said a word. It is okay that some people think that all asians know karate but after a while the joking gets old. How would you feel if every time you met anyone you heard the same Karate jokes. It's extremely annoying and on top of this maybe I don't even like Karate but I get put in a box for people to categorize anyways.

My wife is asian also. We don't live in a very literate or well educated town (Fayetteville, NC) so every time people see her they assume she must be either a stripper, a prostitute that I married from Korea, or works in a Nail Parlor.

The problem is that we wish that people would have a mind to get to know us before deciding to assume so many things about us based on our appearance.

It is true that I am good at math but I am also in the Army, ride a motorcycle, don't know karate, dropped out of college, and do many other things which do not fit me into the category that people try to put me.

Sure there is still discriminating out there but I think the worst part is that more so, minorities are discriminating against them self, by using the race card every time something does not go there way, which is hurting the minorities that are really educating them self's and trying to get ahead in today's society.

Light years less in America than in many other countries in the world. And light years less than in past years of the world.

For instance, the Romans best entertainment was to go to the coliseum and watch the lions eat the Christians. Would that be discrimination?

In the Arab world, wives can be dismissed by the wave of the husband's hand. As in kicked out of their own house. Which the men own every thing anyway.

No other country in the world and its history did the majority kill each other to free their slaves. 370,000 Whites died freeing the slaves. Who did not want to be freed anyway.

Today discrimination is color/ gender blind. I've been discriminated against and I'm white. The discriminators are of color.

Women are weak so they become victims of criminals. Some cultures women are lower than men so men dominate women. In some cultures women are one of the properties of men. Because of women there were great wars in the history. But women are more wiser than men in some family and financial situations. They are bold to make any decision if they rule a country. . So men want them to keep lower.
