Is much of Netflix's selection is available to watch online through their site?

Only a limited selection of movies is available to watch online, but the selection changes by the month. Some films are added, some films are dropped.

Netflix actually has a pretty good selection of movies online, from new-ish mainstream films, to classic oldies, to crappy direct-to-DVD sequels and B-movies, to cult classics, to obscurities, to hit TV shows from today and yesteryear. They've got stuff from all genres and all years. I actually think more indie-type films tend to be available to watch instantly than mainstream blockbusters.

However, since the selection is so limited, the odds that the particular film you want to see is available to watch online are against you. Chances are your film is only available through the mail. But you get lucky sometimes. And the online selection is good enough that you can probably find something good to watch if you don't have a specific movie in mind.

It's worth it for me. In the mail or on my computer. I've been catching up with lots of "classic" movies with my Netflix account.

Mostly the movies available for watching online are terrible and stuff you wouldn't want to see in the first place. They do have a small selection of quality streaming movies though and they keep adding more! You will still have to get them to send you most of the stuff you would want to see.
