If bands like All Time Low are considered punk...?
...then what do people call bands like Rise Against, Rancid, Against Me! or Dropkick Murphys?
All Time Low is as far from punk as you can get, yet people call them punk, so what are bands like I just listed considered? Just wondering...

MQAnswer: State of the Union - Rise Against
Well still...Green Day, Blink 182, The Offspring, bands like that at least incorporate some aspects of punk into their music.
They typically play fast repeated riffs with a kind of different type of vocals, not that stupid pop voice that bands like ATL sing with.
They may not be PUNK, but they're pop punk, punk mixed with pop.
Current pop punk, in my opinion, shares no aspect with actual punk.

i was thinking the same thing, real punk is like the sex pistols, dead Kennedy's and misfits you know good anarchy promoting music.
All time low is just another emo band, but it seems like no one wants to be classified as emo so they decide to call themselves a punk band.

Well if All time low is punk than that makes Rise Against, Rancid, Against Me! and Dropkick Murphys death metal.
I hate it when people thing that atl is punk. It annoys the **** out of me.
I don't believe pop punk even should be considered a genre, I would call it pop rock.

I'm not sure, I mean All Time Low is pretty poppy. I think of Rise Against as more alternative rock. Once, I saw a question that said what do you think of these bands? Rise Against was one of them and the others were punkish. Alot of people got really angry and said stuff like "Rise Against thinks they're punk, but they're not." I mean, have they ever said "Hey, we're punk"? Personally, I think subgenres should just disappear. Everyone thinks they're right about what bands go in what category when there's really nothing to confirm what subgenre they really are! It's also annoying when pop stars such as Pink, Hannah Montana, etc think of themselves as Rock stars...stay in your own genre!

I consider rise against, rancid, dropkick murphys, etc. as punk. All time low is just pop/rock or something like that, they are certainly not punk.

Because punk is not popular, and against mainstream music, no one will ever know what the term really means. So they think bubblegum sh!7 like MCR and Stink 182 are punk. My lawd, last year, everyone said the new "trend" was to dress punk. All I saw was scene... But I digress. The world will never know real punk.

Who considers them "punk"? As a matter of fact, who would consider ANY of those bands "punk" (exception to the beantowners with the Murphys'- mad respect to Boston, but that whole "Celtic" crap wore thin from day 1...), except people who don't know any better.

there's a huge, and i mean HUGE, difference between actual good punk music and POPpunk. the main problem is that these days the kiddies that love all time low etc don't know the difference. my brothers girlfriend is one. she thinks all time low is punk, but its because shes never been exposed to REAL punk.

I don't know I thought All Time Low was more pop, but then I guess Garage Punk or maybe they are Punk and All Time Low is the new wave punk

my chemical romance and green day call themselves punk, motley crue, ac/dc, and def leppard call themselves metal. they aren't. they will never be. there will be more horrible bands in the wrong genre. there's nothing we can do except know that we listen to real music
