Umm, drivers' ed is there to teach you how to drive properly! You practice what you learn.
You can't practice until you have a permit anyway, so, if drivers' ed is a requirement to getting a permit, then how could you possibly practice, anyway?
If you have a permit, and a qualified parent willing to take you out, then it is possible, however, remember a parent may teach you their bad habits before the instructor gets to teach you properly.

You have to have your learner's permit before you can get behind the wheel. If you are taking a driver's ed course, do talk to your classroom instructor about when you will need it, so you can plan ahead. Some driver's ed courses have a couple of weeks in the classroom before you get to practice driving & others split classroom with driving.

if you want to practice driveing i think that will be a good idea check with your parents and see what they think i took drivers ed without practice drivers ed teaches you the safe ways to drive good luck
Source(s): i got my permit today :) - 1 decade ago
Start practicing once you get your permit (that's what it's for). Driver's Ed requires it. But you don't necessary have to do it before the class.

It helps to practice. If you're in America, it's not legal to drive on public roads without a permit. But have your parents take you to a parking lot where you can practice driving.

well you know the point of drivers ed is to help you learn to drive. they're not gonna test you or anything. well what i mean is that they're not gonna take your permit away if you do bad. your there to learn. whether or not you practise before taking drivers ed is up to you. personally, i think you should practise, the more practise the better.

no you don't really have to. my dad took me to a parking lot but thats just cuz i wanted to. they teach you everything and you don't even get out on the roads at first. your teacher has you practice in the parking lot, driving slow and stopping and parking and using your turn signals and everything. and even when you do get out on the roads, you're in a driver's ed car! people know to watch out for you :) and you take the backroads and everything on the first day...its fine. no practice needed :D
