Good birthday recipes?
Hi,
one of my good friend's birthday is coming up and I need a gift! I was thinking of baking something, any ideas? I'm not an experienced baker so I can't make anything too advanced but I have baked the basics (cookies, brownies) before. Does anyone have any really good recipes? Please suggest recipes you have tried or ones that have reviews. Thanks!

THIS IS THE BOMB!
RED VELVET CAKE
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. oil
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 oz. red food color
1 tsp. vinegar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream sugar and oil. Add eggs and mix well. Sift flour and salt and add alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla and coloring and mix again. Pour into 8" or 9" pans and bake 30 minutes. Let cook 10 minutes in pan and then cool thoroughly on rack. If desired split layers before frosting.
RED VELVET CAKE FROSTING:
1 box powdered sugar
1 stick butter
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
Combine ingredients and mix thoroughly with a mixer. Frost each split layer. Sprinkle each layer with chopped pecans. Use 1 to 2 cups of chopped pecans.
