Why is this considered bad manners?

I like to cut all my meat first before I eat. I have been told this is bad manners. Why?

When eating meat, always cut and eat one small piece at a time. There are a couple reasons for doing this. First, the meat will stay hotter longer if you don't cut the whole thing up before eating it. Second, cutting up the entire piece of meat is fine for children but less acceptable for adults.

Not so much bad manners as failing to use good manners. Good manners says to cut as you go, and why I don't know. My guess would be that the pile of bite sized pieces makes your plate look as if you had stolen it from a small child whose nanny had cut up his meat for him.

Most table manners are put in place assuming that you are being served and are curtsies provided for the person serving you. For example you don't put your elbows on the table because the server can't put your plate in front of you. I would imagine that cutting your food up before you eat instead of while your eating it would have the same reason, if your steak was not cooked to your satisfaction the chef could not fix it without cooking a whole other steak not to mention that its much easier to box up left overs if its whole. Also its freaking gross to look at. Don't behave like an animal.

confident that's rather undesirable manners! She should not be going out with you if she's basically going to be busy speaking to her "oh-so-significant" boyfriend. Lol sorry to assert this yet she does not deserve a while. She for sure does not care sufficient to end speaking to him and communicate over with you particularly. maybe you should end going out together with her or in a well mannered way tell her which you do not delight in how she's continuously texting/calling her bf.

??? I don't know why cutting your meat has anything to do with manners... but okay. I cut my meat first because it makes it easier to eat. I do not consider cutting meat first bad manners :)

Because that's usually what mothers do for their children- they cut up all of the meat up for them. I guess people think it makes you look infantile. What's "proper" is to cut your meat as you eat instead of cutting it all at once.

Er, because I imagine you look odd when doing it. I don't know anyone else who does it.

You might look like you have some kind of OCD or maybe its just something about it looks like you are checking that the food isnt bad / you don't trust the cook

because you dont know if your going to eat all of the meat, id guess

i prefer to do the same thing. it makes it easier to eat, and you can put away your knife. but my bf told me that it was impolite. dont know why exactly. thats a good question. supposedly youre not supposed to cut more than your next three bites.

meh i do the same thing. i have heard its impolite, but screw it. unless im eating in front of the queen or something, no one cares! only one person has said that to me, and thats just because they happened to be uptight hypocritical snobs. as long as you arent throwing the extra pieces of meat at people or stuffing them up your nose, i doubt anyones going to have a problem. lol
