What is it: Muscle or Fat? Please Help!!!?

I went to the doctor and he told me my weight. I hated it so I decided to loose a few pounds. So I've been eating healthier and exercising. I go on the eleptical 2- 3 times a few for 20 minutes and dance (because I'm in dance class) every day. I've been doing so much dancing, that when I weighed myself today and found out I gained weight, my mom said it was the new muscule I got. Is that true? Is it the muscle I got from dancing more?

Update:

P.S-- I've been doing dance classes all of my life so it's not a new thing. I've just started dancing more.

Update 2:

I've been doing this for 3 weeks.

Yep. They forget to tell you that muscle weighs more and most women who start a fitness regimen GAIN weight first for that reason. Weight can be misleading if used as the ONLY indicator of how well you're doing. Useful indicators might include how much longer you can now dance vs. when you began. Maybe your speed on the elliptical has increased or you're ready to increase the time. Concentrate on your workouts, the weight will take care of itself.

well muscle does weigh more than fat. could be water weight, give it another week of your routine, if you don't lose the wight then it's definately muscle.

since you started a new way of eating it may be the water weight.
