iphone from att data plan what is a data plan?
I'm thinking about getting an iphone and using one of att's family plans do you need a data plan to run apps?

An unlimited data plan allows access to internet, applications, picture messaging, e-mail, etc. And yes, you absolutely need a data plan if you purchase the iPhone through Apple, AT&T or any other retailer, such as WalMart, Best Buy or Radio Shack.
The iPhone data plan costs $30 and is required. It is also part of your contract, so you can't remove the feature for 2 years from the date of your upgrade or activation.
There is no way around the data plan unless you purchase the phone from eBay or Craigslist but even then, AT&T has the right to add the feature at any time.

Unlimited messaging is an additional $20 per month; 1500 messages for $15; or 200 messages for $5.

The iPhone uses the data plan for unlimted web and email access and you have to have it.
