How to make my jeans distressed?

How can I make a pair of my jeans distressed. How do I make the rips that are not complete holes?? Is there a special tool I need?

    go out in the road and rub your jeans super fast and crazy. some of the holes mite beeee completleeee open but it gives it the nive Holister lookeee!!! =P

    do you have a pic? ok... practice on a rrally cheap pair of jeans you hate and each make holes in a different style and see which one you like bettter.
