I planted gladiola bulbs in June. I am in zone 5. They grew, but never got buds/flowers on them...?

When should I cut them down so that they bloom next spring or summer? Thank you!!!

Sometimes bulbs don't flower the first season as they take time to really establish themselves and get a good enough root base so they'll flower next year. Cut them back when the leaves turn brown or are wilting--leave them as long as possible because the bulbs are getting energy from the leaves for next year. :)

Gladiolous http://easybloom.com/plantlibrary/plant/gladiolus are lovely but finicky plants.

    Some thoughts:

    1) You should have planted the bulbs in spring for summer/fall blooms If you planted them in June, they could just not be ready to bloom yet.

    2) Did you water and fertilize the gladioulus enough? They like around an inch of water weekly. Also, when you water them, make sure you fertilize them!

    3) Gladioulus really like full sun. Are they getting six hours of sun a day?

    4) Also, Gladioulus bulbs don't like to be crowded. Did you spread out the bulbs (about 6 inches apart), are they away from the foundation of a building?

I would leave the gladioulus where they are (if they're getting enough sun and uncrowded) and try watering and fertilizing them. They might still bloom this season! Don't cut them down, leave the leaves on so the bulbs get nourishment for next season.
