My Shih Tzu dog is PG?

I have never been there for a PG dog before (in my 54 yrs) we planned on her mating with our 4yr old Pekingese after she was 2yrs, but he got to her during her last heat, she is 18 mo. old ShihTzu and we can tell she is for sure. I heard dogs are pg for 63-65 days, I think it has been about 55 days now, she is getting large in the middle and her teets are starting to swell. I made a box up for her with her favorite blanket. Now to the question, how will I know she is getting ready? I work 3 nights a week and I am so afraid she will have them without me, I just want to be there just in case, plus the male is real spoiled and now very protective of her, and I don't trust him if she has them when I am not around, I'm afraid he might harm them. So I am desperatly trying to find out what the signs are. Please help!

Update:

You go Laurie, thanks for the help, I didn't bother to read no more than the first few words on Tika and Tantel and closed em up. I just want some help I don't need the other_ _ _ _

when my dog was about to deliver her pups, her temperature dropped,

she was very restless, had to keep going out to pee, then as things progressed she started to pant . It took about 10 hours for her to deliver all 8 puppies. If you phone your local vet they should be able to tell you the signs .

Congrats by the way on the future pups. It was a lot of work having ours but a lot of joy as well.

By the way tika maybe this person is ill informed but give her credit as she is asking questions to rectify that. You really aught to be ashamed of your self righteous attitude.

Please stop being cute. Your dog isn't a movie rating, she's pregnant. That's your fault: the last thing the world needs is another litter of mongrel puppies. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Has it not occurred to you, in the 55 days since the mating, that you had no idea what you were doing, and a little research might be a good idea???????

Take her to the vet now and have the pregnancy confirmed, and discuss delivery problems with the veterinarian. Both breeds (they are closely related) often require c-section [surgical] deliveries because the breeds have relatively large skulls and narrow hips. You need to find a pup-sitter for her because if she goes into labor while you're at work, and she does need the surgical delivery, she could be dead by the time you get home.

Here's hoping your ignorance and lack of planning doesn't kill your poor dog.

    Jae,

It happens w/ dogs.. as well as people so omit the others ?!?!

I think you should call our local vet you use.. for shots etc..

they could better advise you over the spoiled male, you may need to separate them a while.. especially if your not going to be there

I wish you a lot of luck w/ her and the puppies..

congrad's on being a grandma.. LOL

You should NOT be mating dogs!!!!!!!!!! You do not know nearly enough to ensure that the puppies and your girl don't die and you're putting more mutts in the world. Since I'm sure you've been taking her to the vet throughout the pregnancy for check ups you should be able to as your vet all the questions you have. Please have your dog spayed immediately after this litter. Right now you're another uninformed, dangerous, irresponsible back yard breeder.
