What steps do I need to take to be emancipated in Flordida?

In 2002 my father went to court (in NY) to gain custody of me and it was ruled that he would have custody of me until I turned 16 at which point I could choose where I want to live. He took me with him to Florida and has since moved me 3 times and through 9 schools. Now that I've become "of age" I know that, without a doubt, I want to emancipate myself. I'm not entirely sure what I need to do to gain emancipation and I have no one here who is family to talk to about it. Does where the court proceedings took place make any difference and what steps should I take? Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance!

Update:

It was ruled when my father went to court to gain custody of me that I would have the right to choose where and who I live with when I turn age 16. I'm not sure if that means I am already emancipated or if I just have the ability to begin the process to become so

Yes leave your father's care and custody, find yourself a caring homosexual pedophile to really lovingly take care of you

being able to choose where you want to live does not automatically mean you are emancipated... you have to go through the courts for that. the choice only goes between your parents you either live with your father or your mother those are your only choices they still have custody over you and therefore you HAVE to choose one of them.

everything you need to do is basically petition to the court that you want to be emancipated

you need to prove to the court that you are capable of living on your own (meaning NOT mooching off friends houses and stuff,) actually paying rent some place

you need to have a steady job

you need to show them that you will continue schooling. and make sure that you are able to support yourself while going to work and school

you need to show them that you have a steady income for food and clothing and shelter..ect....

this is by far not an easy thing to do and honestly only a small % of minors actually accomplish their goal of becoming emancipated.... personally i think it would be a waste of your time.

The decision meant you had a choice between living with your Mother or Father. Emancipation requires you to hire an attorney, have a job to support yourself, be able to afford a place to live (not with anyone else), have a judge agree and your fathers permission.

All that ruling means is you get to choose which parent you get to live with it has nothing to do with emancipation. You are still a minor and need to live with a parent. If you do not want to live with your father you can petition family court to allow you to live with your mother.

You need a job, the ability to support yourself financially and socially, a place to live, a plan for the court for conducting your life, usually your parents permission, and a court order.

you say you are now 'of age" are you saying that you are legally no longer a minor in that state?

if so, you are already emancipated, except if you are not living on your own away from your father's assistance you are not

you are legally of age, then take care of yourself, leave your father and live on your own

you can't be emancipated and depend on your father for living

You have to file paper work with the court and an attorney needs to be involved. You might find one that will work on your case pro bono.

I sure hope you have someplace safe to go to.
