Why did Sarah Palin endorse death panels, when she declared April 16, 2008 as "Health Care Decisions Day?"?

So Palin was for death panels, before she was against them?

WHEREAS, Healthcare Decisions Day is designed to raise public awareness of the need to plan ahead for healthcare decisions, related to end of life care and medical decision-making whenever patients are unable to speak for themselves and to encourage the specific use of advance directives to communicate these important healthcare decisions. WHEREAS, in Alaska, Alaska Statute 13.52 provides the specifics of the advance directives law and offers a model form for patient use.

WHEREAS, it is estimated that only about 20 percent of people in Alaska have executed an advance directive. Moreover, it is estimated that less than 50 percent of severely or terminally ill patients have an advance directive.

WHEREAS, it is likely that a significant reason for these low percentages is that there is both a lack of knowledge and considerable confusion in the public about Advance Directives.

WHEREAS, one of the principal goals of Healthcare Decisions Day is to encourage hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and hospices to participate in a statewide effort to provide clear and consistent information to the public about advance directives, as well as to encourage medical professionals and lawyers to volunteer their time and efforts to improve public knowledge and increase the number of Alaska’s citizens with advance directives.

WHEREAS, the Foundation for End of Life Care in Juneau, Alaska, and other organizations throughout the United States have endorsed this event and are committed to educating the public about the importance of discussing healthcare choices and executing advance directives.

WHEREAS, as a result of April 16, 2008, being recognized as Healthcare Decisions Day in Alaska, more citizens will have conversations about their healthcare decisions; more citizens will execute advance directives to make their wishes known; and fewer families and healthcare providers will have to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the state of Alaska, do hereby proclaim April 16, 2008, as:

Healthcare Decisions Day in Alaska, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.

LOL! This is too good to be true.

Update:

booman17: The same thing she endorsed on April 16, 2008 is the same thing that she is railing against now on her Facebook page.

The funny thing is, Republican Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia is the person who recommended the 'death panels' in the first place.

Yeah, I read that. Apparently some of that was posted on her website, but since she's responded to the health care reforms with all her lies about death panels, she's taken it down. I guess she didn't want to be accused of being both for and against death panels. :)

You know, we are looking for intelligent people that understand the difference between Government decisions and personal family decisions. Do you understand that even if the family or victim would not want to take end of life measures regarding a terminal illness they would have no choice with the plan that is being put forth. Have you ever heard of extending a life? Do you know people that are cancer free? You know measles use to be a big killer. What do you think obama care would do with those people back in those days? Force them to stop taking medicine so they would not cost the healthcare plan anymore?

Money issues due to bad TORT laws created by lawyers and greed regarding any drug issues is what is fanning the flames of this government control issue. I can appreciate the fact that you cannot see the difference, but perhaps that is because you have not thought clearly about it. THINK ABOUT GOVERNMENT TAKING CONTROL OF EVERY FACET OF YOUR LIFE FOR GOD SAKE. You need to use the wisdom God gives you, not the lies of communism.

Boy, it's really easy to confuse you liberals. You seem unable to make certain basic logical connections. Having a living will is fully responsible and appropriate for all people to write down.

The death panels have nothing to do with this. The death panels will be necessary to determine who gets certain care, and at what cost. Just like in Britain, commissions have been set-up to determine the value of life vis-a-vis the cost of expensive treatments and life expectancy. And although they're not called death panels, the end result is the same.

You guys really should learn before you spout off, regurgitating White House talking points.

Source(s): I really laugh how some of you actually use the White House as a source for your stupidity.

Nothing in the Alaska proclamation provides financial awards to doctors for pushing patients to make these decisions It is merely an awareness day of the need for such things as living wills and end of life counseling. The verbage of Section 1233 of HR3200 was quite vague but It could be interpreted very easily to read that there would be financial incentives to doctors to pressure the patients and that is the main point of contention over that particular provision.

This is two different things. The "Death Panels" is the committees set up by the government to decide who gets health care. End of Life Counseling is another thing entirely, and Gov. Palin has never said she was against it. Why do liberals blindly repeat what their party tells them without thinking about it at all?

The concern over the current health care bill was that Doctor's would have financial incentives to get patients to sign a "pull the plug" order.

It is easy to see why Sarah Palin resigned as Governor of Alaska.

    Her own message contradicts itself.

She quit as Governor but states that she is not a quitter.

The main difference is that her proposal allowed voluntary end-of-life counseling. The main reason she's opposing the proposed stucture was that it was mandating the counseling regardless of whether the person wants to receive it or not.

This is about encouraging people to create advanced directives, or "living wills", that instruct doctors and family members as to the wishes of the patient should they become mentally or physically unfit to make decisions for themselves.

It's choosing your fate before you can't physically choose for yourself.

Why do we even give that woman our attention anymore? She was the token female the Republicans thought they needed to have a chance in 2008. And she failed. And she will keep failing.
