My car's engine sounds louder than usual when driving/accelerating and idling.?

To give some more info, my car is a 2002 Honda Accord SE, 70,000 kms on it, manual transmission. The noise seems to be coming from the middle of the car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You have a leak somewhere in the exhaust system. To track it down jack up the car and start it up. Follow your ears to the sound then hold a piece of newspaper close to the pipe to show where the gas is blowing out (if necessary).

    It does sound like Exhaust

    However

if the car was running in Neutral ( with Ebrake on - be safe )

and you Pop the Hood, do you really hear more noise from the "Engine"

    or

do you just hear more noise from the car?

I would tell my kids who are away at college to go to a place like "Midas" or any of the expensive shops that do FREE EXHAUST CHECK UPS

    find out what they say

    then take that inforamtion

Now you feel confident about how to convey what you need

    and

go to another shop that won't over charge you.

Talking to a mechanic with confidence I feel takes some of the opportunity for them to take advantage of you.

Middle? Then maybe the exhaust system is to blame. It could be that it is damaged there..or shot lose ..I suggest you check the exhaust system first.

Exhaust system repairs are luckily pretty much one of the cheapest around.

It sounds like you may have a hole in your exhaust pipe. Same thing happened to my Civic...it was right before you get to the muffler. Just take it to a muffler shop, it only cost $50 to get mine fixed.

Turn the car off and check your oil. If it's low, add some. If it's dark, get an oil change ASAP...! Check the radiator, too. Make sure the radiator fluid's OK.
