question on a radiant barrier paint?
Anyone use the Hy-Tech Barrier Coat #85 anywhere in their house? They claim it can be used on any wall to reduce heat transfer and save electricity.

I agree with Blazer and I am in the business http://capcityeco.com/ I use Radiosity 3000 in attics.
Their website is http://www.radiosity3000.com/
It is an excellent product and much less expensive than Hy Tech.

I don't know if the same stuff had been used, but I was working in an attic on a relatively hot day where the attic temperature should have been above 100 degrees. I was right next to the roof decking (plywood) that had been painted with an aluminum colored radiant barrier paint. My boss was with me and we were both amazed how cool the attic was, and we've both been in a lot of attics over the years. We were in the attic for several hours during the middle of a mostly sunny day. There was no other reason why this attic should have been that cool. I'd have to say it works. How much electricity you'll save, I can't say, but I'm seriously considering doing my attic with it.

The Hy-Tech Barrier Coat #85 is considered a "Hi-Temp" paint and is generally use in attics. http://www.hytechsales.com/spcoatings.html They have other "additives" to be mixed with regular paints for interior use. If you are looking for a method to reduce heat flow through the attic, consider Radiant Barrier Attic Foil. The foil always reflects 97% of radiant heat and does not have variables like coverage, effect of the porous wood deck etc.
You can also install radiant barrier attic foil for less than the cost of the paint and do it yourself in sections as time permits.

I had a product called Radiosity 3000 installed in my attic. It saved me 17% on my electric bill in the first month.
I've since had Radiosity installed on my exterior paint. Turns out Radiosity can be added to any paint, not just for attics. The exterior paint job saved me an additional 10%.
