Does ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING About Obama's 1st Job out of College?

Obama graduated from Columbia College in 1983 and briefly entered the commercial world, staying in New York for a little more than a year after graduation. He was employed by Business International Corporation before moving to the activist New York Public Interest Research Group.

Business International Corporation (BI) was a publishing and advisory firm dedicated to assisting American companies in operating abroad. In 1986, Business International was acquired by The Economist Group in London, and eventually merged with The Economist Intelligence Unit.

Obama's recollection of this period demonstrates his tendency towards puffery, writing in "Dreams...," (p. 135), that his first job after graduating Columbia was as a "research assistant" in "a consulting house to multinational corporations," with "my own office, my own secretary" and "myself in a suit and tie, a briefcase in my hand."

But as one of his former fellow workers (and an Obama supporter) has written, it wasn't a consulting house; it was a small company that published newsletters on international business, "a bit of a sweatshop" where casual attire and low pay were the norm. His job was essentially copyediting "in the cramped three Wang terminal space we called the bull pen."

Obama rejected the commercial world and joined the agitators at The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG). Created by Ralph Nader in the 1970s, NYPIRG is New York State's largest student-directed consumer, environmental and government reform organization. It is a not-for-profit group, established to effect policy reforms while training students and other New Yorkers to be advocates. Since 1973, NYPIRG has played the key role in fighting for more than 120 public interest laws and executive orders.

During this period, Obama spent three months working for a NYPIRG offshoot up in Harlem, trying to convince the minority students at City College about the importance of recycling.

The Chicago Period began in 1985, when some leftists were looking for someone who could recruit in a black neighborhood in the south side of Chicago and Obama applied for the position as a community organizer for the Developing Communities Project (DCP) of the Calumet Community Religious Conference (CCRC) in Chicago. The "Project" was funded with a $25,000 grant by Bill Ayers' Woods Fund.

Can we just stop blaming the president and start blaming the corporate culture. Profit first over anything. We drive wages into the ground for profit, then we drive the cost of the product as high as we can. What would you think is going too happen. You can even blame outsourcing, increased productivity. How about technology, you can keep track of everything now on a single computer hooked into corporate headquarters. Efficiency? Blame Wallstreet and their earnings estimate, blame all those that are investors and get free money from the working class with little risk. Blame billionaire investors taking up the majority of the share of profits that could instead go too those that work and provide economic impact. Blame all of the consolidation of jobs, where a person that once did one job, now does three. Blame machines. What about IT professionals? Blame all of the low wage jobs produced and all of the high wage jobs outsourced. Although you worked so very hard at proving your point it's all obama's fault it had very little too obama or bush. We don't need as many people too produce as many goods as we did 30 years ago, or even 10 years ago. Blame when you look around your house that not a single thing was actually made in this country. That's a lot of jobs right there. Now you know where most of the blame should be, who are you mad at.

Oh we didn't care because they weren't all scary like Obama.

Besides which what about the classmates that were on the news during his campaign - or the staff members from the newspaper in which he was the editor in college, who all recieved extensive coverage? You didn't even watch the news or documentaries on his life apparently and completely made up the phrase "NOBODY RECALLS SEEING HIM" because, well i don't know for sure why - maybe you have aspirations of being a fiction writer someday.

The New York Times reports that the company was "a small newsletter-publishing and research firm, with about 250 employees worldwide, that helped companies with foreign operations ... understand overseas markets." Obama was a researcher and writer for the firm for about a year.

I found absolutely nothing about BIC being a front. I wonder where you did.

And he was a community organizer with the Developing Communities Project (DCP), which targeted African American neighborhoods on Chicago’s South Side by working with African American churches in the area.

His first job out of college was pimping. Sarah Palin was his best ho. Now you know why she's so angry at him. Trick got full of herself and wanted more money, so he had to kick her to the curb. Trick's ain't nothin' but trouble, so that's why he went legit and became President.

Why don't you guys pull a rabbit out of your *ss. It'd be more believable.
