What gauge of speaker wire should i use?

I have a 1000 watt amp going to 2 10 inch MTX Thunder 5500 subs. It says their Rec. RMS Amplifier Power (watts) is 150-300. So what gauge of speaker wires should i use for these subs?

I would use the thickest speaker wire I could find 10 gauge or 12 gauge speaker wire.

If you wire those subs in parrallel then your going to need 300-600 watts RMS at a 2 ohm load. Make sure you amp can provide this at half gain and is 2 ohm stable.

Unless you have the dual voice coil 5500 series then you better make sure your amp is 1 ohm stable for the same power requirements. Matching up amps and subs is a very specific artform and unless you make the correct matchup based on specs your not going to get the best performance from the equipment you buy.

12-16 gauge for the wire that goes from the amp to the subs. Simple as that.

Earl, 10 gauge speaker wire is a COMPLETE and TOTAL waste for this setup.... jeez, so many of you myth spewers keep saying stuff like this.
