Are all Americans Arrogant? Are all Americans rude?

Are all the people where YOU come from arrogant slobs? No! Don't you hate when people from other countries:

A) Automatically assume you've never traveled/met anyone outside the US?

B) Stereotype you and ask if/why ALL Americans are such and such a way, as if there are no rude people anyplace else in the world? Especially if they're French or British, since they're also notoriously arrogant?

C) Yell at you for voting Bush in the second election even though you (and half the country) didn't?

All before you even introduce yourself? Isn't that rude, arrogant, and ignorant in itself? I'm from the US. I speak three languages. I'm very well educated. I've traveled. And even if I hadn't, seriously, if my country were the size of Texas or Alaska, and largely surrounded by several other countries of...about the same size, don't you think I'd have visited them? I know plenty of people who have gone to Canada or Mexico, just like I'm sure people in the UK know plenty of people who have been to France and Spain. I don't go to Europe often. The same reason you likely don't come to America often. It's FAR. And it's expensive. Get over it.

Well done you. It is unfortunate the level of stereotyping that goes on in foreign perceptions towards Americans. It is of course not always true, and it is unfair that Americans are all lumped into the one false stereotype of being rude and arrogant.

But think about this. Isn't it slightly arrogant to call yourself 'very well educated?' is it not ignorant to call all of the British, my own kinsmen, 'notoriously arrogant', and by doing so affirming a stereotype and becoming the thing you so vehemently oppose? Is it not rude to insult both the British and French; a sweeping generalization which doesn't reflect a lot of people in both nations?

You have to admit there is no smoke without fire...

Not only this, but you assume that everyone who is not American holds this view. You end with the confrontational statement 'get over it', implying that we are the enemies rather than sympathizers for your plight. You also capitalized 'far', as if we are incapable of reading and understanding a fact without needless emphasis. I'm not stupid you know. If you were slightly less confrontational and angry, you would have garnered more sympathy.

Instead you may have turned people against you, simply because you displayed what you have said you hated. It reeks of hypocrisy.

I think Americans are being stereotyped as arrogant because USA is very well documented and extensively studied not just the history & culture but in all aspects that the world can ever imagine...name it from the economy, taxation, politics, finances, entertainment, health care, family and marriage, dating, relationship, education, food and literature, etc etc I can go on and on..even up to the 'low life' losers around.I guess too much exposure makes Americanos vulnerable. Anything that the media shows automatically gives USA the label of being arrogant. I dont really know. NOT ALL Americans are rude. Not all Americans are lazy, NOt all are on welfare, Not all Americans are illiterate and crude. SOME but not ALL.

Ref:C) Since U.S. voter participation is less than 60% ,one can be elected with less than 35% support of the population.

Then again, one can just blame The Electoral College, which

actually elects the President, NOT the American people.

Remember-Sen. Gore had more votes than Gov. Bush in 2000.

Maybe some people from countries other than America do that, but not all. You are stereotyping people too you know.

If you look at the quality of TV shows in America, and that's all you have to go on, I too would think Americans are selfish and ignorant. The reality TV shows, stupid sitcoms and flaky dramas are an embarrassment.

I recently met a bunch of people in a summer foreign exchange educational camp. They were form all over the world and we talked very agreeably. Everyone agreed airport security in America (including me, an American) is paranoid. I guess a mutual positive attitude and something funny makes for better international relations.

I just find it very interesting that everyone HATES us, yet wants to BE us! Maybe we are arrogant in that aspect. I went to Italy 5 years ago and had all kinds of comments made to me even though I didn't say a word. I finally told people I was Canadian (in my southern accent might I add) and they completely changed their attitude.Have you noticed the celebrations over Obama last November all over the world compared to now, less than a year later? They are already talking crap about him too. There's no winning in this situation. I'm actually more annoyed with the stereotypes within our own country. Except for sweet southern belles of course :P

Wow! I speak five languages, from Romania. I've been out of this country. I wasn't even born in this country! And, yet, I consider myself American.

    a. Yes

    b. No

    c. I don't vote

This is more of a rant if you ask me. And if anyone is the 'arrogant slob' it's you.

    Du-te dracu

No, many of you are too dumb to even know what arrogance is. I pity you. Good luck, my obese friends!

people don't ask me those questions...but I still wonder why people from other countries tell me who to vote for in our elections.
