I am 38 weeks pregnant and beyond miserable. Does anyone have any suggestions to making me go into labor?

I have read all over the internet that sex, walking, caster oil, eating spicy foods, drinking some herb teas, and stimulating the nipples would induse labor. Well, ive tried every single one of them but the tea and none of them are working. This is my second child. Both girls. I've had sharp shooting pains in my vagina that sometimes make me bend over in pain when standing and I even have them sitting down or laying down. My grandmother told me those are pre-labor pains getting me ready for delivery but, when is this labor gonna start. Its been going on since I was 37 weeks. My belly is so big everyone keeps telling me I'm having twins but the doctors only hear one heart beat. My belly is really tight. It sits really high but yet, the baby's head is so far down in my vagina, I can stick my fingers in there and feel the circumference of her head. I can barely walk half the time cause I get so exhausted and have to sit down but, I've tried everything. Nothings working. Everyone keeps putting posts on WHAT'S THE RUSH! to other postings. It's not that I'm in a hurry, it's that I'm hurting and so miserable that I can't take it no more. Believe me, I already know the consequences after the baby arrives. I've done had a child who is now 4 almost 5. If you know something that has worked for you or a friend, can you please let me know. I'm desperate!

YEAH!! Congrats! I'm due on April 4th!! My friend sent me these b/c i was wondering the SAME THING! Natural Labor Inductions 1. Enemas- this causes the bowels to contract and could cause the uterus to contract, which will open and efface the cervix. 2. Exercise- Walking, swinging in a swing and general exercise contracts the uterus. 3. Fasting and Dehydration- If pre-term labor occurs, a big percentage of the time, dehydration is the cause. This is a dangerous mode of induction and should be used with the utmost in caution. 4. Herbs- Black and Blue cohosh, borage oil, castor oil, evening primrose oil, goldenseal, mugwort, and yarrow are uterine stimulants. Evening primrose oil placed directly on the cervix will aid in dilation and effacement. 5. Intercourse- Having sex helps to induce labor because semen contains prostaglandins which helps to dilate and efface the cervix. Orgasm also causes the uterus to contract. 6. Nipple Stimulation- This causes the uterus to contract much the same way an IV Pitocin drip would. Stimulating the nipples causes the release of oxytocin which contracts the uterus. This can be done by someone sucking on the nipple much the way a baby would while nursing or by placing the nipple between the thumb and forefinger and “rolling” it for 10 to 20 minutes at a time every couple of hours. Neither medical nor natural labor inductions guarantees that it will work 100% of the time. Usually if a woman is ready to go into labor it will only help to bring it forth. A word of caution: do not try any of these means without first seeking the advice and help of your doctor or midwife. They can tell you all the side-effects and the dosage and duration (where needed) of each method while also telling you if you are a good candidate for natural labor induction. Hope these help!!

I am in the same boat! I am 38 wks pregnant with our 3rd girl and have tried and tried and tried to get this little one to make her appearance, but she must have other plans lol. And one of the other girls said a ride on a 4 wheeler will do it, not true! I have been riding ours numerous times a day for a week now and nothing! On top of all the pain and not being able to sleep, move or walk right, I am dilated to 5 and 90%!!! I think they are just in there laughing it up! My doc said walking and sex are the only things that have a real chance of working. I know its the last thing you want to hear, but I dont think anything will actually induce the labor unless your body is really ready and then maybe one of them will work!

Nothing will put you into labor but that sweet baby releasing the hormone that starts the process..or pitocin. Ask your ob to sweep your membranes at your next appointment. Everything you have mentioned are the "tricks" to getting labor started, but the truth is..it won't work unless that little one is ready to come out. You can try sitting on a birthing ball to ease some of the discomfort and it can also help to open up the pelvis and let the baby move down.

I'd just try and relax as much as possible. Your little bundle of joy will be here soon and will be more than worth the wait. : ) I know the last few weeks are tough. Good luck and best wishes.

Start nesting BIG TIME! Scrub your floors, clean out closets, make & freeze dinners (so that you won't have to worry about cooking when you come home), do laundry (get all those baby clothes washed & ready to go!!)... these things may not necessarily bring on labor - but it will keep your mind off of how miserable you are. Be sure to take frequent breaks though for several minutes at a time to put your feet up, and be sure to get to bed early each night - you will still need energy for delivery. Good luck hun - I know you're miserable.

I know exactly how you feel - I was practically done at 37 weeks due to being so uncomfortable, miserable, the baby weighing past 8lbs, constant contractions, etc. I went into false labor at 37 weeks and fully expected my doctor to induce me right at 39 weeks, but I had to beg him to schedule me for an induction. You might want to talk with your doctor about doing that.

My husband and I also tried all the self-induce things as well and none of them worked. Whenever I told people that, I got the same response "he'll come when he's ready" and "what's the rush?" I hated those comments and still do.

i no how you feel i am the same way. i am also a high risk pregnancy. i asked my doctor the same quetion because i was trying everything and nothing was helping. first question you have to no is if you are dilated and effaced any. i wasnt dilated and my cervix was really high and thick so nothing was working. i used the castor oil and was having contractions for a day and a half every 2-3 minutes so i went to the L&D and they stopped them because i wasnt dilated or anything. i been walking and walking and walking and still cant dilate any. i go to the drs today so we will see whats going on. i am also carrying a BIG baby gurl.. i have also heard of blue and black cohosh and evening primrose oil..let me no if it works

I don't think there is anything you can do to make you go into labor but you can help you cervix thin out?

Try taking evening primrose oil and raspberry leaf tea- both tablets and/or capsules... i think you insert one of them as well...

My midwife said to start these at 35 weeks and well my waters broke at 36 weeks... i don't know if my daughter wanted out or if they worked but there's nothing wrong with encouraging your cervix to thin out...
