Any suggestions on colleges to apply to?

We are encouraged at our school to come up with colleges we will apply to. My parents want me to apply to at least ten good colleges.

Update:

I was planning on going out of state. I'm sick of Colorado, but I am going to apply to CSU anyway, though it's expensive. I really want a scholarship.

Well, it depends on what you want to do. Different colleges are good at different things. You wouldn't go to Harvard Law if you were going to become a computer scientist, even though it is a good school.

  • Depends on your interests.

Top ranked schools always a plus, but you need to be very clear on your goals and major that you want to study.

University of Montana at Missoula is a great school. University of Washington in Seattle is also excellent. The entire University of California system is highly ranked across most majors, with UC Berkeley and UCLA taking the top spots, UC Davis comes in the top five.

University of Madison, WI is great, and University of North Carolina at Asheville is top notch as well. University of Michigan is also up there, along with University of Arizona, Tuscon, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University. Schools in Illinois and Texas are also ranked high.

Use the Princeton Review or some similar online ranking system to get an idea of where you might want to apply based on your interests.

Applying to a whole bunch of colleges just because they're "good" won't help get you in: in fact, if you're so busy trying to get all the apps done that you don't take the time to research them and figure out why they'd be a good fit for you, you'll probably end up coming across as a generic candidate. Ask yourself what you want to study and what kind of environment you'd be happy in (small/big, urban/suburban/rural, etc.). Sites like Princeton Review and College Board have questions you can answer to help you narrow your search down. Once you've done that, you can identify reaches, matches, and safeties.

Hopefully you live in California or my list will probably mean nothing to you...

Any of the UC campuses (except for maybe riverside)

    Cal Poly, San Diego State

because you are interested in applying to a CSU I would consider San Diego State, Chico State (beautiful campus), Cal Poly (If your grades are exceptional) and if you are stong academically the UC's are considered the "Ivy Leagues orf the west"

well, there are thousands of options. anyone can name a bunch of colleges, but u gotta decide for urself what u want.

the first thing to consider is location, location, location.

do you want to stay in your hometown? maybe u want to go to a different city, or even different state. would you be willing to go to the other side of the country?what about the area? urban (new york) or rural (oklahoma) next thing to consider is private vs. public. private is much more expensive, but they offer better financial aid packages. public universities in your state will save you hella $$.

another thing to consider is religious affiliation.

would you be comftorable with a school that has a morman affiliation...or jesuit or what about jewish. you gotta decide what ur comftorable with.

another thing to consider is size...do you want to go to a huge institution with 25,000 undergrads? or maybe a 400 student body size is better.

and also your major. do you want to go to a liberal arts college or a research university.

below are a few of my suggestions:

University of Southern California (Los Angeles)(Private)

University of Colorado at Boulder (Boulder)(Public)
