Yes. The plaintiff can file a suit against you as "John Doe", and then after filing the suit he can subpoena the phone companies records to find out who you really are.

This is how people file lawsuits against defendants for whom they know only an email address, screen name or bulletin board nickname.

YOu needed to tell Vonage in the beginning that you wanted to Port your phone number out.. (carry over the same number). You pay a small amount on each bill to have that service provided. BUT it is up to you to make the request when you get a new phone system. AT&T is supposed to keep the number in reserve just 'in case' So.. if too much time has not passed you can try this. 1) IF you can still cancel your contract with Vonage without a penalty, go back to AT&T and tell them you want to re-up with your old number. They will facilitate the cancelling of vonage's account and you will likely owe for only what you used. 2) Make sure that your 'new' AT&T account has a cancellation window (usually around 30 days) in which you can avoid any early termination fees. 3) Use the att& t account for a week or two and then go back to Vonage, tell them you want to port out your at&t number and open up a new account there. This time it should work. BUT.... If you are currently subject to early termination fees at Vonage then this could be an expensive switch. .

Almost all states provide a suit in equity can go forward if the petitioner run an ad in the legal section of the local papers classified adds advising you of the court date, and post the notice to you on the bulletin board in the court house.

If done, you are considered served by the court and loose by default if you fail to appear on the court date.
