Compost Pile question?
My compost pile has maggots in it. Is that normal or does it have something it shouldn't in it? I never put meat, only lawn and garden waste and some chicken and rabbit droppings, in it. Should I start over with it or try to remove them?

keep going... you don't need to start over or remove them. If you have maggots, but they won't hurt your compost or your garden. (just think of them as surface worms) :-) They'll break down the organic matter in the compost and leave their own "manure" behind. They won't hurt anything.

There are only two of us at home now, so there is nothing to make a compost pile with. Leaves are not falling yet and the lawn does not need mowing. So we are having to buy ours at the nursery in bags.

You need more compost starter. That stuff is basically enzymes. If you had enough of that in your composter you wouldn't have maggots.

leave them..... but see if you can get your pile 'cooking'... if it's working as it should be, it would be 'hot' and too uncomfortable for living things like maggots.... so, greens, browns, water and air..... bring it's temperature up.....
