Is there a similar "smart erase" feature out there?

I use Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10 to edit out blemishes and what not from my photos. I use the smart erase feature rather than the blemish feature though - I find it works better. A friend asked about what I use and it turns out they have discontinued it. I know a lot of programs are similar - is there another program out there with something like "smart erase" from Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10?

I have used many graphic editors over the years, but not Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10.  I assume that the "smart erase" feature is nothing more than an effects plug-in type of thing.  And there are quite a few similar features available in various products.  My first thoughts would be The GIMP (and any plug-ins that are available for it):
