Why are country artists teaming up with rappers lately?

First it was Taylor Swift with T-Pain (which I didn't care for) and now one of my favorite songs has been messed up in a "club remix" - "She's Country" by Jason Aldean - http://www.myspace.com/newvoiceentertain

What's the deal?

Update:

Local country station did a poll and 64% of listeners didn't care for such collaborations.

I absolutely hate the two genre's doing the country/rap thing!!! It ruins a truly great country song, and in my opinion, takes country down to rap's awful level.

I suppose the singers are trying to broaden their horizons, but what they are doing is causing more harm than good. Country has already claimed it's spot as a number one genre and doesn't have to prove anything. However, rap has a very long way to go to reach the top of their genre's.

So we can break this cultural boundary that has been between country and rap. Now a lot of you would say country+rap=crap but i can take a lot of crap lol. that t-pain/taylor swift thing was pretty bad but the She's Country Club Mix wasn't bad at all. Rap is good but it's been lackin' lately (past few months). i wish the top two genres in music were country and rap then rappers would be influenced to actually rap about meaningful things instead of money & bitches. Rap would be more respectable to me if it told a story like country songs at least once in a while. And it's be nice if more people listened to country. There's a lot of ignorant people out there because of rap.

Jason Aldean was on Chelsea Lately last night. He said his band members mixed the song, and got some white rapper to throw a verse on it, so that it would be played more in clubs. It's a good idea, because it gets him more exposure.

What do you mean what's the deal?

The deal is that they're musicians and they're making music and they're doing things with their music that may be a little different, but so what?

Who says that rap and country can't go together? It has before; it will again. If you don't like it, then don't listen to it. Others may like it, and the artists most likely like it, or they wouldn't release it.

What's the deal? It's very simple. Most people listening to "country music" today couldn't tell George Jones from Grace Jones or Hank Williams from Vanessa Williams. They've been fed a diet of pop and rock songs with an occasional steel guitar in the turn-around and told, "this is country music" and they've bought it. Sooner or later Metallica or AC/DC is going to do a song, label it "country," and all the lemmings will go, "okay."

You can put a stop to it: demand REAL country music. Don't let them get away with labeling Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, et. al. "country" when they clearly ARE NOT.

They're just trying to expand their horizons and appeal to different audiences. It shouldn't be something taken as an insult to country music, especially in the Taylor Swift case, because she just did it as a joke for people's entertainment. I think people need to lighten up and let them do what they want and have fun with it.
