Can we revise, retool, revamp our economy to operate with out Chinese or foreign goods?

It will take a big change in this country. Our government would have to start promoting a campaign to "Buy American!" They will never do it. They have allowed imports to undercut American made products.
The other major problem in the US is unions. Unions add a significant price increase to many American made products. China does not have that added cost to deal with. High import tariffs could help to level the playing field but again our government will not implement them.
No easy answer.

That would take some doing on the part of the people here and I don't feel like many of them feel like really doing that. It's not something that can be done by the government. Now there was a push a few years back for everyone to go get their college education but a lot of people got degrees and didn't do anything with them. So yeah the government could have done more to make sure businesses have employment for those particular educational programs, but the people themselves could done more to move toward their area of collegiate study. I just feel like people themselves could stimulate the economy by either taking the risk and starting a small business or by producing some type of goods.

America lost its technological ability to produce ordinary goods at a competitive price decades ago. When was the last TV made in America? Maybe a Zenith back in 1985.
America is good at designing and manufacturing high technology products such as aircraft, pharmaceuticals, and defense systems.
The global economy is here to stay. America needs to deal with that reality.
