Washington DC Where to stay? What to see?

My wife and I want to go to Washington DC for about three days. 1. What special places should we see (eg science museum)? 2. Where can we find reasonable lodging after laborday, for two nights? 3. Is it worth the money to take a tour?

Things you must see: Air & Space Musuem, the Capitol (email one of your congressmen to get a free tour), the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Monument, Natural History musuem. Go into Georgetown- it's a very historic neighborhood (although most neighborhoods in DC are historic) but Georgetown has a lot of great restaurants and bars. I just love this city and I could on and on about it.

It depends on when you go (what day of the week) and what you're into. From a cultural standpoint, as it was suggested, the "mall" is your best bet. You have the Hirschorn Museum (fine art), the museum of Natural History, the Air and Space museum, the museum of African Art, and the museum of American History all in a four block span. The Holocaust museum is nearby. The Marina is nearby where you can paddleboat. You can take a dinner cruise around the Potomac on the Odyssey. The Mystery Theater Playhouse is in Arlington (dinner theater). Umm.. there's a whole lot to see and do but again, it depends on what you're into.

DC has something for both the conservative and the not-so-conservative, if you catch my drift. I've lived in DC my whole life (I'm 33) and still find new things to do.

Can not answer about the places to stay as I lived an hour north for a year. The "mall" has most of the fun things to go to, all of it. Parking is a chore so pay a bit more for a place that has public transportation to the "Mall" area of DC. Ware good walking shoes, plan on lots of walking. Sundays the Smithsonian buildings open later so if your there on Sunday sleep in a bit OR drive down and park by 9:30am next to the site you plan on finishing at. A tour will be fun and give you an over view so you can map out what you want to do the rest of the time your there so if you do one do it as soon as you can on arrival.

With the kids we enjoyed the National Zoo. It is small and easy to do in half a day and free as are most of the sites in DC.

If your kinky send me a note.

Enjoy your trip, I loved living close.

I always stay at the Embassy Suites. It has a wonderful location for walking to the city. One great thing to do is go to the Smithsonian Museums. They are all free and magnificent. Another thing I did was see the Spy Museum. It shows you many centuries of what spies used and did. Very interesting.

If you're interested in a White House tour, email or call your senator. If you do you'll get a very personal tour, mine was 5 people when most public tours have many many more. It's great. Have Fun!
