DISTRICT 9 Question : Is the prawn Christopher gay ?

There we go, putting our "values" on a culture that's not our own. You're saying it's gay for a male to be polite or for his friend to be aggressive?

And human friends are sad when someone dies?

As for the clothing, those were cast-offs found by the aliens when they had to survive here on Earth.

As you said, Christopher had a son. And how many female aliens did you see in the film? After all, how would we tell them apart?

It's unfortunate that you're missing one of the main messages of the film - that people judge, prejudge, and assume the worst when they should spend time understanding.

No, they weren't a gay couple or a couple of any kind.

For one thing, the physiology of Christopher's race is different from that of human beings and according to the film's official websites, they reproduce asexually.

Secondly, we don't know what the morays or values of their culture are. They may not even feel inclined to "couple up" as humans do, although they are definitely capable of forming emotional bonds, as was clear from the film.

Thirdly, Christopher didn't seem that worked up when his friend was killed. It was more like, "Another day in District 9". Life was obviously cheap in that place and Christopher was apparently accustomed to seeing his people killed by human authorities, opportunistic gang members, and probably even one another. He seemed more concerned about the fuel being discovered by the humans than he did about his friend being killed. His coaching his friend on what to say to the "cops" didn't seem like the banter of a couple, but more like an intelligent individual coaching his less perceptive friend on how to keep the authorities off the scent of whatever clandestine activity they were up to, in this case hiding the fuel.

As to their clothing, it was obviously just scraps scrounged from the ubiquitous junkpiles.

Finally, Christopher goes into some detail about his personal life on his blog (another official site from the film's producers) and mentions his son Oliver, other people important to him, and atrocities commited by MNU. If he had a companion (especially one that had been murdered by MNU police) that might have rated a mention.

So no, I don't think there's any reason to assume they were gay.

The prawns do not have genders. They are all self-sufficient, meaning they have both female and male organs internally, thus can knock themselves up without a partner. SO other prawn was just Christopher's friend.

no, their not gay! all of the aliens dress a little weird, and when the one alien got killed Christopher's son asked "where's your friend?" plus if they were together i think chris would be more sad then he died.

I don't think the aliens have genders. And even if they did, all of that stuff you mentioned wouldn't even begin to imply they were gay. They were looking out for each other.

on the district 9 website, they have a mock blog posted by christopher. in it, he mentions that prawns are hermaphrodites (unisex, both penis and Virgina). he also mentions that he has two kids, oliver and Shirley.

Does it really matter story wise? I don't think so.

In any event, if I were to say I'd say they WEREN'T Gay.
