Open University - one year?

Hi there,

I am wondering about the Open University. Is it possible to do a course for one year? Like a Level One course? I would like to apply to University for next year but i currently have no Highers (im in Scotland).

I was wondering could you do a one year course at the OU and if i take two Highers at college, do you think this would be enough to at least consider me at university when i apply?

Is this possible for the OU?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think the best thing is to contact the Open Uni or look on their website www.open.ac.uk There are several people who have done Open Uni courses and are of school age and younger than 16, so do it alongside their other schoolwork. The Open Uni has courses which demand different amounts of study time each week.It does have level one courses as you start with that, unless you have done previous uni study in the area you want to study. A 60 point course, which is a 16 hours per week and counts towards a degree, so it's the full amount and equivalent to one years worth of degree study. You could also do a 30 point or 15 point course. Doing an Open Uni course could help universities show you are capable of doing this level of study and have the motivation, because you need to do it around other commitments. I think it is best to look on the Open Uni website though. Good luck.
