So you are trying to solve for "a."
The Question is: 4=a/2
Step 1: You want to get "a" alone, so you multiple it by 2.
4=a/2 x 2/1
Step 2: Whatever you do to one side of the equal sign you must do to the other.
2 x 4= a/2 x 2/1
Step 3: The 2 on the left side of the equal sign cancels out, and you are left with just "a".
2 x 4= a
Step 4: Just multiply 2 x 4, and you'll have your answer.
Answer: a= 8

The answer is 8...
You multiply both sides by the denominator.
4 X 2 = a/2 X 2
8 = a

its actually 4/1 = a/2 ... so the answer is 8 ...
any number over 1 is that number. so the first part is 4
then you think to yourself what number over 2 is equal to four?
or what number divided by 2 is four?
8 divided by 2 is 4. 8/2 = 4/1 a=8

4=a/2

8=a

a=8
move the 2 to the other side of the = sign. this reverses the / or divide sign, making it x or multiply. thus giving the equation:
4x2=a
making a=8

multiply both sides by the lowest common denominator, 2 is the lowest of 2.
