what is jim rice's problem?
i find it impossible to believe that anyone could compare derek jeter to manny ramirez and a-rod in terms of quality of character among baseball players today, but jim rice did just that...he also said he would not put jeter in the hof, which is obviously absurd, naming jim thome(i love jim but he won't go before jeter) ahead of him
i wonder if jim rice goes to bed wondering why he didn't get into the hall sooner because he should know that comments like this are a huge part of why...i always rooted for him to get in, but with these comments i really wish we could take him out now, bashing one of the cleanest, purest players in the game today is just retarded and bad for the game as a whole
what is everyone else's opinion?

Jim Rice is completely nuts. Jeter should be first ballot and he is only like 35 years old. Whether you love him or hate him(I can't stand him), you have to be one ignorant piece of garbage to say he shouldn't be in.
BTW, Thome will get in before Jeter because he is nearly four years older and will retire a lot earlier than Jeter will.
Edit* I don't know if anyone read the article, but Rice didn't say Thome was better than Jeter.

He's just pissed that he missed out on the generation of huge contracts.
The most he ever got paid was $2,354,748, according to baseballreference.com.
These days if you play every day for a major league team you're almost guaranteed to make at least that. If he came around maybe 10 years later than he did he'd probably get one of the ridiculous contracts he seems to hate.
And I'd bet dollars to donuts if a team offered him 15 mill a year he'd take it in a heartbeat.
But that being said, people need to take it easy on Jim Rice and give him the respect he deserves. He belongs in the Hall of Fame, though when all is said and done Derek Jeter will probably have the more impressive career.
But he's COMPLETELY wrong about Jim Thome being better than Jeter. I've always liked Thome as a player, but he's just one of many big boppers in the steroid era.
Derek Jeter is a unique player in the way that he plays the game. A lot of people say he's the most overrated player in the game, but the VAST majority of those people don't watch him play on a daily basis.

Derek Jeter is better than him and Jim Thome, NO DOUBT
Derek Jeter leads the all time short stop hits list, he has the most hits ever in the old stadium, and he has been a great player and a great person throughout his career. His Charity brings in so much money. He deserves to be in the HOF no doubt. JIM RICE IS A LOSER

Jim Rice is a f88king a33hole. there is no way jeter is in the same category as arod and manny. it shows you how ignorant this feeble man is. he should have never been inducted in the hof and the only reason he did was bc he blew some of the ppl who voted. jeter arod and manny all blow away Rice as a player and as a person. if Rice played today he'd be equal to a geoff blum quality player. Jim Rice just wished he had more money bc he was never good enough to earn a lot. hopefully this scumbag ends up on the streets broke and dieing. I have lost all respect for this man and am considering picketting the hof to get him out of there. Jim Rice = Pusseee

I feel Jim Rice spoke from the heart---as for waiting 15 years, I have to believe that it was the media deciding to get back at him; if it were solely on credentials, he would have been in sooner. The media does not like Jim Rice.

Let's face it. Rice is jealous of what today's players make.
He was always a bitter nasty guy.
Obviously has issues with the Yankees, so many more players he could have called out other than Jeter.
Did he ever criticize Manny when he was in Boston?
The bottom line:
He will NEVER EVER NEVER NO NEVER EVER get over watching Bucky Dents home run sail over his head in 1978. The pinnacle moment of their total collapse that season.

He's jealous how he made the HOF is a mystery to me it took him 15 times to make it,he doesn't even own 1 ring he's a joke he only wishes he could have been the player Jeter is... i hope he's at this game tonight watching us rape his team.

That's pretty classless. I too was rooting for Rice to get in the Hall and I'm a lifelong Yankees fan. But you are right that crap like this is what kept him out for so long.

He performed nicely for sixteen seasons. whilst finding at his production whilst in comparison with others interior the corridor of recognition, Jim Rice belongs in there. His corridor of recognition visual show unit at baseball reference is one hundred forty four.5 whilst a possibly corridor of Famer has a score of > one hundred. regardless of if or no longer you think of the present standards of the Baseball corridor of recognition are smart is up for debate.
