About Importing Video?

I just got a new laptop, with adobe premeire elements7movie program on it. I have a problem.?

My Sony DV Camcorder has an IEEE Firewire which was great for our old computer, but my new HP does not support the firewire. My camcorder only loads the still shots via USB. So my question is, can i get an adaptor for the fire wire that will allow me to capture my video through USB port?

No adapters DO NOT work and are a waste of money. Minidv requires firewire, no way around it. It is going to cost you to buy a firewire express card for your HP and if your laptop doesn't have an empty bay then you are out of luck.

I have a new HP dv5t and it has no firewire but it has an empty bay.The card it takes is around 80.00. Firewire cards for laptops are not one size fits all.

Sorry, but no you can't!! Firewire to USB converters don't work!! Since your laptop hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available, but make sure you check whether your laptop uses PCMCIA or Express cards. You'll also need a firewire cable.

I've just looked at the link in John's mail - $119!! Firewire cards are a fraction of that price.

    ofcourse you can

USB to FireWire DV - NTSC

    What does this kit do?

This kit connects your DV camcorder to the USB port on your Laptop or Desktop PC.

Do I need a FireWire port in my computer?

No, you don't. All you need is a USB port (standard on all new computers). So, there's no need to add a card or open your computer to install anything. It's all easy and plug and play

Will I need to buy software too?

No, you won't need any additional software. In fact, we highly recommend Windows Movie Maker, which is already build into Windows. We do include software for Windows XP computers called ImageMixer that will help you download your videos to your computer.
