Norman Bates question?
This question is a little, well, stupid, but.. I'm watching Psycho IV, and when Norman calls into the radio talk show, he doesn't give his name, and the host says we need to call you something, and He says, something like, you can call me Ed, and I was just wondering, do you think that, that name was chosen in the script, because Norman Bates was based off of the serial killer Ed Gein, or just a coincidence?

I think the name was chosen on purpose. Most people who know the inspiration for "Psycho" undoubtedly recognized that bow to it. I think it's intentional, one of those in-jokes/allusions movie buffs are sure to get.
