Why are subjects like maths and science held higher in society than the arts and humanities?

Maths and sciences are to be valued. There is a lot of both required to do many essential jobs. However, I agree that language and arts/music should be held in high esteem as well. BTW I do not think English major are to be seen as stupid, they are very smart and talented (and willing to read all of those poorly written papers). It is simple to explain to anyone why a particular math problem is wrong; the same is not true about improper English.

Hmm i never thought music was a bludgy subject probably coz i know people that have done it and it's certainly not easy. art....i like art and am good at it but i see art in a way smaller field. It doesn't really hold much worth as a career because it's not guaranteed. i look at a lot of art and think THATS ART?

science is a highly evolved subject and it's always changing because it plays a huge role in discoveries and inventions that explain what you have surrounding you right now.

maths is pretty essential. english has slackened a lot since i left school. just be glad you know how to spell and use grammar. It will make YOU look like the smarter one.
