Should I cut off my Philodendron Plant's bare vines?

Hi, I rescued several Philodendron plants from my bachelor brother. They are almost dead, but savable. I took all the dead leafs out, untangled the vines, cleaned the leafs off, and added potting soil and water. They are perking up a little now. Evidently, at one time these plants were lush because they have really long vines that have green leafs on just the ends, but for the rest of the length of the vine the leafs had turned brown, died, and came off leaving a long pretty bare vine. My question is, should I cut off the bare vine and put the end that still has leafs in water to get it to root and replant that back into the pot in order to do away with that long (about five feet long) bare vine, or will the bare vine eventually put out more leafs? Some of the leafs are VERY limp feeling, should I cut those off? Thanks for any help.
