Cat poo can give you toxoplasmosis if it is ingested. And only then.

I have 2 cats, and i still clean their litter and my baby is fine.

I asked my midwife, and she said if i make sure i wash my hands well after cleaning the litter there will be no harm done.

Edit: Oh and you are only at risk if you have never had a cat before because if you have then you will already have been exposed. There is more info about it all on Wikipedia.

What Crux and Lottie said!! Try to get someone else to do it but if not clean yourself well afterwards and wear gloves. Also if your cats have it or any cats you grew up, you are likely to have had it and are now immune to toxoplasmosis. Just be on the safe side though. You can get it more easily from other animals as well, sheep and newborn lambs for example, so avoid them too!

  • Because cat feces has a bactria in it that can cause Toxoplasmosis. If you get Toxoplasmosis while pregnant, it can cause a miscarrage, downs syndrome OR severe mental retardation.

Stay away from it, get a friend or someone to clean it, it is really serious!

it's toxoplasmosis. it is a protozoan infection and is spread commonly through contact with handling cat stool in soil or cat litter. if you made contact with it you may experience almost no symptoms of the dsease except a few days of malaise. also this infection can pass through your baby's placenta and once that happens, your baby may be born with nervou system damage, hydrocephalus (head filled with fluid) microcephaly (small head)

  • Its called toxoplasmosis. And its found in the cats feces. Have someone else change out the liter box. Its not toxic to people but in pregnant women it can be. It can cause serious damage to the fetus. If you have to change it. use gloves and wear a mask. wash your hands afterwards. Take care :)

im pretty sure its toxoplasmosis. my perinatologist told me to avoid cats and all other animals during pregnancy.then an allergist told me to avoid pet dander and pets during toddler years. so animals are a no no right now.

  • smelling it will do even more damage than touching.

    it's because of the ammonia.

ammonia is in cat and bunny pee.

    it will harm your baby.

i forgot what it does to the baby, but i know it's extremely bad and you shouldn't be around it.

have someone else do it for you
