Need to Pick your Brains XT question?

Ok people, I need the old timers who know DOS and the old 8088 Hardware to help me out on this one. What I need to do is pull 40 Megs of data from an old RLL drive and store it on my current system. The XT is running dos 6.22 the Parallel ports and Serial ports still work. The modem for it still works. I have thought about using the parallel cable and moving it that way, However there are incompatibilities between the software and interfaces. I don't have an 8 bit IDE controller to attach an IDE drive not that it would make a difference as the 8088 codec does not support it. So I need some solutions as to how I can move this data. I can’t do it with floppy as it only supports 360K format. I thought about going the route of the modem, but I don’t have enough space left on the drive to archive the data in to one file. So you’re seeing my problem here. Let me know what you can think of, I'm drawing blanks any more.

That other guys a jerk, why did he even answer your question. Ok, Have you thought about using your parallel software in side dos box and moving it that way. Also you may want to set up VMware on the XP system and see install DOS there. Then see if you’re able to move the data that you need. That’s about the only way I would think you can move the data. Also you may want to see if you can locate one of the first generation Parallel Zip drives to install on it. That would be another option. Hope this helps and I hope you can get the data off. Good luck.

I am a Christian and I believe that when a person dies they cease to exist, or sleep in the grave until Jesus returns on judgment day. I believe there has to be a God because the earth and everything in it is of extraordinary design. With that said complex design does not just happen it requires a designer A Creator. Man has been worshiping a "creator" since time began. That is because we are "made" to worship. It has only been in the last few hundred years that people started or should I say stopped believing that we were created. and started believing we evolved by circumstance, or accident depending on how you look at it. I personally believe in the Bible and the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. The Bible is an amazing book and there is none other like it. It was written by 40 different people over hundreds if years apart, from different walks of life and educational backgrounds, yet every part coincides with the rest. Some say that there are contradictions but that is not true, but rather taken out of context of the whole picture.

How does the modem/parallel/serial cable help you? You still don't have anyway to make communication happen between the 2 systems, just cabling and protocols, no transfer implementation.

Best bet is to hook up an internal IDE zip drive. Older motherboards have VESA connectors that you can plug PCI/IDE adapter cards into.
