The question is quite tricky - you can look either arrogant if you go to far or horribly bland if you try and duck it.

My approach would be: I believe everybody is unique, and so set aside from everybody else. But my particular strengths and interests are...

Research Montessori, it's aims and ideals. Have a plan of what you want to tell them. Write it down. Have a folder of your research, achievements and interview plan (think of it as a story). Don't be afraid to share it with them.

But don't be to eager to lead the conversation. Different interviewers have different techniques. Let them tell you the story and ask the questions first.

Some inexperienced interviewers will dominate the conversation and not allow you to have your say. Wait until they have finished, then makes sure you tell your story.

Research some relaxation techniques, there's not enough space to details them here - and use them before you go into the interview.

Above all - be yourself. Just the "yourself" you like the most. Phony shines through in an interview if you an experienced interviewer.

    Good luck, Cally.

Montessori have a particular ethos. Do your research on them. If you go in feeling like you know a fair bit about them, you'll feel more confident that you can display a bit of knowledge in your answers because you've done the research.

Also, get a parent, sibling or friend to ask you questions as though you were in the interview. It's a good way of finding out things you might do wrong (such as saying 'ummm') - it's the best way of identifying your strengths and weaknesses and helping you to play up to those strengths and avoid your weaknesses during the interview. It makes you far more likely to do a better interview.

And remember, if they weren't interested in your application, you wouldn't have got the interview! So walk in there with your head held high, wear smart clothes and pay attention to your appearance.

Another great interview technique I learned along the way is to shake the hands of the interviewer(s) when you enter the room - it makes you appear confident, because you approach them. It also buys you a bit of time to get used to the new surroundings, and makes an instant good impression!

It has worked for me every time.

I was terrified when I had my first 'formal' interview. I get really nervous and Im quite shy generally. So I wrote down likely questions I'd be asked and then made notes. I also got family members to ask me questions and I'd answer them - Sounds silly but it helped :)

You dont always have to have questions to ask, don't just repeat something they've already explained for the sake of asking or you'll look like you haven't listened!
