150cc scooter has no spark.?

My 150cc chinese scooter is not starting. It's a Roketa 150 if that helps. I had a short in the mirror, but I fixed that easily. This caused the fuse to go out, again, replaced. The bike has a full charge, so the battery isn't the issue. When I try to start it, it sounds perfectly normal for a starting attempt. I have a full tank too, just topped it off before it died.

I replaced the spark plug, because I had an inkling a while back that I was having trouble with that, so I thought of that first. I also replaced the cap (the thingy that connects straight onto the plug, don't have the proper name). I cut the wire too, as it looked a little frizzled. That's all secure. The plug won't spark. I measured the voltage at the selonoid, and that's about 25 or so (which is strange for a 12 volt system, isn't it?). I tested again just prior to the plug wire... I don't know what that thing is either, but it's two connections and a roundish thing. I assume it's some sort of transformer or capacitor. I only got about 2 volts there. That seems very low to me.

I know how to use a screw driver and ratchet. I can use a voltometer. I just don't know how to diagnose the bike. I do know that there is no spark, as I physically took it out and watched it during a crank. Nothing at all. I didn't test compression, but since I'm not sparking, why bother yet?

Update:

Thanks, but I just tried that and still no spark. I hadn't considered grounding before, but now that I've learned to do that...no go.

The fuse can't be the problem anymore, as it's the only fuse on the bike. If it's gone, no power goes anywhere at all. It's directly between the battery and the rest of the vehicle's systems.

Update 2:

I should mention that the problem began, while driving. The mirror (which has a turn signal light in it) was loose. I twisted it a bit hoping to tighten the bolt, but that's when it shorted. I reconnected those wires, but the fuse went out then. Also, my lights all went out when that happened, while idling. As soon as I tried to accelerate they all went back on.

I'm thinking either CDI, kill switch, or ignition coil. I can't afford to buy all of them, so I need to know which one to mess with.

this might sound odd but make sure that you are holding the threads of the plug against the head when you try to turn over the motor. if the threads dont touch the head then youre not making a ground. if you still have no spark. then check your main fuse again and see if its blown. if it is then you have a grounding short somewhere in the wiring and you need to check out that mirrors wires again. if the fuse is good then its either the regulator, the cdi(electronic ignition module) or the coil. the problem you are going to have is with these chinese scooters there really isnt any parts support for them. even online. so you might want to check for a motorcycle salvage yard in your area and see if something from say a Honda elite150 or a Yamaha raz 150 scooter is close to what you have. but generally the coil is not the problem if the connection from the spark plug wire going into it is secure. so tracing back from the coil through the wire harness you will run into the cdi spark unit. first make sure youre getting voltage going into the coil then make sure that you are getting voltage going into the cdi. tracing back from the cdi into the harness you will find the voltage regulator/rectifier which is usually a small black box right off the generator. this is where you will have to start going to the salvage yards. the chinese create frankinstein machines made up from parts from older japanese machines that are currently on the market if your lucky. Good luck with this. electrical problems are the biggest pains especially when there are no manuals or scematics to go off of

Ah, I have imported chinese Scooters into the U.S. and never have I encountered a problem such as yours, but lets try to resolve it. Most Scooters come stocked with a NGK Spark Plug. However, if you want to know the correct size of the Spark Plug (and since the Scooter is new, the information is still glued to your bike), please check undernealth your seat, where you store your lock and or helmet. Against the wall of the seat casing, there is information pertinent to your bike. Read it carefully, because it tells you the size of the spark plug. Believe it or not, most scooters uses the same spark plug as a lawn mower. However different bikes (and different CC sizes) on occassion will use a slightly bigger size. I should know, I work on them. Happy Riding and Good Luck
