Army combat patches from Marine time served?
So I am now in the Army Guard. I feel a little left out that I dont have an Army Combat patch of any sort. The problem is I spent time in Iraq, with the Marines. Do I get to wear ANY kind of combat patch? I would like to know why or why not if possible. I just feel off all these people looking at each other with combat time and I am sitting over there being looked at like a peon. In my line of work, it is a stamp that should not be overlooked, and will make my job MUCH easier.
I was with the Texas National Guard while I was there, helping them with base security. Again, I have no idea.
Again, I was with the Marines in Iraq. Thanks for reading. I was not in the Marines? Yea. I would say something but I will keep that one above bar.
As for my comment about being with the Texas National Guard, we were a group of Marines who fell in under Texas National Guard to assist with base security operations. The question is I had two chain of commands, one USMC, one Army guard. The Marines paid me for it. Can I pick up a badge they earned in theatre?

The answer to that is no since the Marines do not wear unit patches. The only patch as a former Marine you wear is the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. A while back a story came out about Soldiers who were under the command of the Marine Corps wanting to wear the 1st Marine Patch and eventually it was declared ok but again they Soldiers who fell under a Marine unit not Marines who fell under an Army unit. Different regs.

You weren't a Marine Pendejo. You can't wear any of their patches, if they had any. Marines only wear one object that signifies combat experience and that is a plain Combat Action Ribbon. The pride of any grunt, but worn only by Marines. You need to talk to the TX Guard about any combat patches since that is who you belonged to. If you engaged in contact with hostile forces (directly, and not because you were guarding the base of those who were), then you may be due a combat infantry badge, but someone has to submit the paperwork.
You also might consider getting those Army Guard guys covered in patches to lay their manhood on the table and someone get a ruler to settle that argument.

Goodquestion. I have personally seen former Marines in Guard units wearing combat patches from the 1st Mar Div and 3rd Mar Div. I would think that if you were attached to a Army unit during the war, you would be entitled to wearing that unit's patch as well.
I know that marines that were in combat are not entitled to wear the CIB, only the Marine CAR, there are other little details but, no doubt you can wear a combat patch of the Sorps or the Guard unit you were attached to, I have seen it my self so I would not be giving you bum scoop on it, You have earned it, Thanks for your service Devil Dog. We do appreciate all that you do.

You CAN wear a combat patch from the Marines, but only if your unit was attached to the Army at the time you served in Iraq. The only prior Marine patch I see is the one with the hand and the torch and the #2.

Technically, you are not authorized a combat patch. A combat patch is an Army tradition and you were not in the Army. However, I can think of three Guardsmen off the top of my head (2 vietnam, 1 somalia) who just wore Marine combat patches from their prior marine service and said they would like to see someone try to take it off. No one did. You'll get a chance to deploy again soon and earn an Army combat patch. You MAY be able to trade your combat action ribbon for a combat action badge. I dunno, I may just be making that up. Good luck.

If you haven't spent time in combat with the Army, you won't get an Army patch. You'll have to get one from the Marines as it seems that would be the patch you'd wear since you were in combat as a Marine. Try to find your Marine contacts and see if they can push it thru for you.

The USMC does not have or use combat patches. However, if your duties rate a combat patch but were attached to a USMC unit at the time, you would likely rate one for the Army. Soldiers, correct me if I'm wrong.

The Marines don't wear patches, as I am sure you know since you served with them. However, Army personnel do wear Marine combat patches. This question has been discussed her a few times.

I would say it is not an area with an absolute answer and you should talk to your superiors.

You should look for the regs detailing what kind of medals, awards, ribbons etc that can be worn with your uniform (whether ACUs or class As)...I was prior Air Force before going to Army Reserves and some of my ribbons that weren't branch specific were allowed, but others were not. You should find answers there whether or not they are allowed.
