When I came to buying a new camera I looked at Sony's and in more than one shop I was told that Sony don't have a very long history of making cameras and that they couldn't recommend I buy one. The other thing I was told was that Sony do not make their own lenses whereas a lot of the other more established camera manufacturers (Fuji, Canon, Olympus, etc.) do make their own.

I don't know about the smaller cameras but at my art school a lot of people will only use Canon cameras. They swear by them and I have only heard good things.

I would say advise you buy the Canon but I have never had a camera from either manufacturer (just Fuji & Olympus).

I personally, like cannon cameras better. I feel that they are easier to use, and I've owned both a sony camera and a cannon. I, personally love the extra features you get with a cannon such as the colour accent feature where you can pick one colour to show up on your picture. But sony are good cameras as well, and the sony that you're interested in is a bit smaller than the cannon. And so it depends what you're using it for and such. But also, with an included 2gb memory card, the cannon, i feel, is a much better deal. Hope this helps!

Canon. They specialize in cameras and quality is better. SONY is decent but Canon is more reliable and image most likely be clearer. However, after looking art reviews maybe SONY will be better. It's more compact, more mega pixels and probably touch screen display. So its all depends on your preference. Either one is good. This canon model is bulky, but again they specialize in cameras. For every day use however, go with SONY.

There are all varieties of cameras for much less then $2 hundred. it is rather useful to envision out eBay. they have an fairly good form of cameras and countless the fees will blow you techniques. I have been given a information superhighway cam for $a million an MP3 participant (8gb) for $9 and a few different issues at particularly low costs. in case you do no longer techniques waiting a week or 2 for what you purchase, you could no longer beat it. despite in case you do no longer purchase something there it supply you a competent thought of what's obtainable interior the fee variety you choose on. If you are a professional, you should choose canon/ nikon depending upon your location. On a chat with a professional photographer, I came to know that certain cameras are suitable for certain skin type (white/black/brown). For personal use, you can blindly choose sony coz no body can match quality and servicing provided by sony.

I have to recommend the Canon PowerShot SD780 IS. ($199 at Amazon) It has one feature that other brands do not. An optical viewfinder (the little hole you look through at your subject). LCD viewfinders just don't work well in broad daylight. If you are going to take pictures outdoors, you should consider getting a camera with an optical viewfinder.
