Cake Flour vs. All Purpose Flour?
I am baking red velvet cupcakes and the recipe calls for cake flour. Can I use all purpose flour instead?

your cake will be heavier with regular flour but still good you can add a small ammount of corn starch and sift flour five or more times befor measuring and it will make a big difference

They're a different grind and give a different texture. It will still work, but the texture will be a little heavier than the recipe intends - more red cake and not so much velvet. Sift the all purpose and replace a little of it with cornstarch.

they are not the same. cake flour has less protein and will bake lighter and fluffier as a result. substitute 1 cup cake with 3/4 a cup of sifted all purpose, plus two teaspoons cornstarch.

Your cake will be heavier with regular flour, but you can use it. It would be lighter and fluffier with cake flour.
