My mother had lung cancer (she passed away in July) and was too large for the CAT scanner to. Mum didnt want the indignity of going to the zoo (I dont blame her) to be scanned so they just settled on doing X-rays. Im sorry that doesnt really answer your question, but if your friend is happy to go to the zoo then good luck to her and I hope she makes a full and speedy recovery.

There are many places who offer Open MRI's for the very large Instead of a Cat Scan. Simply ask the doctor if this is possible. She doesn't even have to lie down for it, They have ones where she can stand up, and it will move around her. There are plenty of options besides a typical CAT Scan.
