Just in case they ever have to ask a question on Yahoo! Answers, they'll know that English has a capital 'E'.

To boost/maintain their GPA. Because they're interested in the subject. Because they think it will help them in their future career. Because failing doesn't look good when you're searching for jobs. There are lots of reasons to want to do well.
