Why are handheld games often underrated? (At least by shallow gamers)?

Really it makes me wonder. I mean I heard a bunch of people in my bashing guitar hero DS and GTA Chinatown Wars when they were released just cause it was on the DS. Not to mention most of them never even heard of the best games on the DS.

IE:

The World Ends With You

Any Castlevania Game

Chrono Trigger

A bunch of RPGs

etc

I'm absolutely positive that the only game any of these people think is good on handhelds are the pokemon games. (And the occasional mario game)

Well, to be fair, the DS interpretations Guitar Hero and GTA leave plenty to be desired as they were originally engineered for other consoles.

Mashing buttons on the DS pales in its aesthetic value to, say, strumming a guitar-shaped console.

Flip it the other way; games like Chronos Trigger, Avalon Code and Luminous Arc are born with the DS and feel silly being played on other consoles.

Bashing Guitar Hero and GTA for DS is thus legitimate and entirely acceptable. It's not the same as bashing DS games as a whole.

I know it's annoying. There is a really cool game coming out for the Ds soon.

Just play what you love and don't worry about what other people think. Talk good about what you love to spread it by word of mouth, but talking someone into trying a game they think they know without playing is like trying to talk someone into changing religions.

Some of my favorite games are handheld. If you have a PSP check out Jeanne D'Arc. AWESOME game.
