Looking for vacation experiences in Japan?
Hello,
i'm planning on traveling to Japan within the next year with my husband - we are really excited, we both love the culture and can't wait to learn and experience more.
I'm looking for any experiences on vacationing in Japan. links are welcome, but i can find links on my own - i'm looking more for places to visit/avoid, things to do, etc, based on personal experiences. can't wait to hear any stories, and thanks in advance. :)
Thanks for all your answers, they are all great and very informative. i can't wait to take my trip! i wish i could pick all 3 as the best answer, but alas, there can be only one. thanks again for taking the time to put so much info into all the answers! :D

Have been to all of the places listed during the 5 times I have been there.
Do not take a taxi anywhere unless there is no other way to reach your destination(which is rare; almost everywhere is reachable by train or bus, which is also much cheaper than a taxi)
The first time in Japan changed my entire outlook on life.

I was there earlier this year, which was my first time. I loved it so much, I want to go back and planning to in Q1. I can't believe no one mentioned Hiroshima and Miyajima. There are few museums in Hiroshima worth checking out. The museums are a bit sad and might leave you teary-eyed after seeing displays of people suffering and affected by the atomic bomb but it'll open your eyes. Miyajima is a 25 min ferry ride from Hiroshima, which is absolutely gorgeous.
Also, if you haven't already, familiarize yourselves with "manners and etiquette when in Japan". PS, it is considered very rude to talk on your cellphone while on the train.

relies upon in case you like the city existence or what no longer. while you are going to Asia for the 1st time i might truthfully propose you to surrender with the help of Hong Kong. great great city, I been there two times so a great way and that i enjoyed it! The foodstuff there is great and not high priced in any respect. the city is somewhat sparkling even nonetheless site visitors would properly be fairly like ny site visitors!

Hi there,
As for Tokyo, to optimize your time there and see a lot I always take people for their first time:
Any morning:
1.) Go to Sosenji Temple (Asakusa) walk around "Nakamise Dori" and "Kaminari Mon."
2.) Take taxi to Ueno park walk around, then can walk towards Akihabara (the electronics dictrict)
3.) take JR Yamanote Line to Harajuku-get off and walk down "Takeshita Dori" and see all the teenie-boppers and fashion
4.) From Harajuku walk towards Meiji Jingu (shrine) nice walk
5.) From Meiji Jingu walk towards Omotesando
6.) From Omotesando you can walk to Shibuya and make sure you walk up "Center Street"
7.) On way home take subway from Shibuya Station and make sure you see "Hachiko" statue
Other daytime activities:
1.) Kichijoji-nice little area, lots of nice shops/restaurants/park, my favorite part of Tokyo!
2.) Odaiba-Venus Fort mall, get to ride over Rainbow Bridge, see Fuji TV
3.) Tokyo Tower-not really anything interesting...haha
4.) Nagatcho-to see the Japanese National Diet Building
5.) Ikebukuro-nice area just to walk around in
Eating:
1.)Try cheap and good "kaiten sushi"-sushi on a conveyor belt, good quality and good price
2.) Ramen shop-if it's crowded it should be good
3.) A good stanby chain restaurant is called "Otoya," nearly everywhere and serve traditional Japanese food
These are just some basic things for a few first days in Tokyo, have fun!
If you have a lot of time, take the shinkansen to Kyoto and Osaka to see the sights, then 1 day in Nara.
